Rain hands Giovinazzi Spielberg win behind safety car

1 Mins read

Heavy rain that originally delayed the start of the final race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring saw a three-lap run behind the safety car before being red-flagged, restarted twenty-minutes later and then red-flagged again after one further lap, with half points being awarded for the top ten finishers.

Antonio Giovinazzi took advantage of his pole position on Friday afternoon to take the victory, with the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver extending his championship lead as a result.

Prema Powerteam driver Felix Rosenqvist consolidated his runners-up spot that he took from Charles Leclerc after his race two win on Saturday with second, while Sergio Sette Camara took his second podium finish of the season in third for Motopark.

Markus Pommer continued in fourth for Motopark ahead of Prema Powerteam’s Lance Stroll, while Leclerc was sixth for Van Amersfoort Racing.

Jake Dennis was seventh for Prema Powerteam, Alexander Albon eighth for Signature, while George Russell and Callum Ilott were ninth and tenth for Carlin.

There was time for Kang Ling to retire his Mücke Motorsport machine at the end of the first lap as he pulled into the pits with an apparent mechanical failure, while Julio Moreno spun his ThreeBond with T-Sport machine behind the safety car.
