Sonoma Debut for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing

1 Mins read

GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing will make their Pirelli World Challenge debut at Sonoma this weekend, entering a Hyundai Genesis Coupe in the GTS class.

Whilst primary driver Jon Fogarty will be busy fulfilling World Endurance Championship commitments this weekend, he will return for the final round of the season, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Meanwhile, Jeff Harrison will fill in for the Californian this weekend for the two rounds at Sonoma Raceway.

Bringing yet another new car to Pirelli World Challenge, required, as always, a homologation process, which took nine months for the Genesis Coupe.

“I’m very proud of Terry (Wilbert, team manager) and John (Ward, engineer) for what they’ve accomplished in a relatively short amount of time,” team owner Bob Stallings said. “The homologation process is not an easy one, but I believe we will have a fast and reliable race car. Sonoma will be more of a test than a quest, but we are getting ourselves lined up to be very competitive in 2016.”

“I first met Jeff 13 years ago when I began driving,” said Stallings. “I have a lot of respect for his ability and I am glad he will be with us as we debut the new ‘Red Dragon’.

Harrison has raced in many series, including Porsche Supercup, Grand-Am, ARCA, Pro Mazda and USF2000 Pro National Series.

“Jeff has been helping with some tuning projects and our testing program, and his feedback has been very good as Terry (Wilbert) and John (Ward) develop the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This is a great opportunity for Jeff and we are excited to have him.”

“Driving for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing is a dream come true,” said Harrison.  As a driver, all I want is a team that has the ability and desire to do whatever it takes to win.  Everyone wants to be a winner…until it is time to do what it takes to be a winner.

“GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing is willing to do whatever it takes to be a winner. This debut will be another important memory of this team’s history and to be a part of it, and to represent GAINSCO Auto Insurance and Bob Stallings Hyundai is very special.”
