Aquilante: “Sonoma Raceway is a Ton of Fun”

1 Mins read

Andrew Aquilante‘s third place finish in Sunday’s GTS race was the highlight of the Pirelli World Challenge rounds at Sonoma Raceway for Phoenix American Motorsports, a vast improvement over the previous weekend’s results.

Heading into the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in two weekends’ time, the team is continuing to lead the GTS championship, whilst Aquilante is second in the drivers’ standings.

“Miller (Utah) was definitely the low point of the season,” said Aquilante, whose luck improved in California, with 4th and 3rd place finishes. “Sonoma Raceway is a ton of fun, it reminds me of the tracks out east. The Mustang was pretty good over the bump, that has been where we are strong.”

Meanwhile, Kurt Rezzetano enjoyed a P5 finish on Saturday, but the following day he was involved in an incident, resulting in a retirement. Preston Calvert, the team’s third driver, came 20th and 18th, but won the Optima Batteries Best Start Award in race one.

Calvert’s GT Cup entry rewarded him with seventh place finishes in both races, and is tied with Mitch Landry for fifth in the championship standings.
