Felix Rosenqvist was naturally delighted to have finally claimed the FIA European Formula 3 Championship after a dominant hat trick of victories at the Nurburgring last weekend sealed the title.
After taking three pole positions, the Swedish driver was untroubled in each race and completing the trio of victories, and the Prema Powerteam admitted he was ecstatic to clinch the title after trying so hard for so many years.
“FIA Formula 3 European champion – I’ve finally done it!” said Rosenqvist. “I’m on the top spot of the podium at the end of the year after previously taking third and second place overall.
“My win in the Macau Grand Prix a year ago was an incredible experience, but to be rewarded now at the end of a long season for all the hard work is just as great a feeling.
“Many thanks to the guys at Prema Powerteam, and, of course, to Mercedes-Benz as well. We did everything possible together to make this title a reality.”
Rosenqvist became the first driver to clinch the ‘Grand Slam’ in Formula 3, adding the Euro title to his victories in the Macau Grand Prix, Pau and the Masters of F3 at Zandvoort, but believes 2015 has been the best season of his career so far.
“The FIA F3 European Championship title is the last bit that’s been missing from my F3 CV, and to finally have won it is just absolutely incredible,” said the Swede.
“It’s been my target for the last few years and it’s hard to explain how much this means to me. I still probably haven’t understood, but I will tomorrow. It will sink in.
“It just doesn’t get any better than this. It’s been the perfect weekend. We’ve been working under a lot of pressure this year, but we’ve had the confidence in what we do and in the end that makes all the difference. I have never felt stronger and I regard this as the best season of my career.”
