The deadline for the organisers of the proposed FIA Formula E championship round in Switzerland to raise the necessary funds has been extended until the end of November.
The lakeside city of Lugano is looking to host the ninth round of the second Formula E season on 7 May, with the Swiss ePrix in-between the French and German rounds, with the deadline for officials in Switzerland to raise €10million in funding being extended from 30 September until 30 November 2015.
Meetings between Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag, Lugano mayor Marco Borradori and Trulli Formula E team owner Francesco Guarnieri brought the extension, and should the funding be raised, a three-year deal to host the race will be signed, with an option for an additional three should it be a success.
Motor racing has been banned in Switzerland in 1955 following a horror crash in Le Mans that saw a number of spectators killed, but the laws were relaxed earlier this year, allowing Lugano to make its bid to host Formula E.
