Dutchman Robin Frijns has been confirmed as the second driver for the Amlin Andretti Formula E team for the 2015-16 FIA Formula E Championship.
Frijns will pilot the #27 Amlin Andretti Spark-Renault SRT-01_E alongside Swiss driver Simona de Silvestro, with the former Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion, GP2 Series race winner and Formula 1 test driver feeling honoured to be racing for such a recognised team in Formula E.
“It is an honour to be part of the Andretti family and to drive for them in Formula E,” said Frijns. “It’s a new championship and a completely new challenge for me.
“The way of driving and saving energy is going to be tough, but fun and I am really looking forward to the first race in Beijing in a few weeks time.”
Team owner Michael Andretti is delighted to have been able to announce Frijns, and feels the line-up of the Dutchman and de Silvestro is strong as the series heads into its second season, which begins next month in Beijing.
“We’re very excited to have Robin join the team,” said Andretti. “He’s only done one test for us, but he did a really good job and he has a great attitude.
“We feel that with him and Simona (de Silvestro), we have a strong team put together and are ready for season two.”
