Sims excluded from race two for technical infringement

Guest driver Alexander Sims was excluded from his fifth place finish in race two at Hockenheim after his Hitech Grand Prix car failed a post-race inspection.

The British driver had been one of the quickest drivers throughout the race, but failed the air vacuum test during in scrutineering, which led to his exclusion.

Hitech GP boss David Hayle felt Sims was unlucky to be excluded, feeling that gravel thrown up the lap two crash of Signature driver Alexander Albon caused the issue that saw the Briton removed from the final result.

“The team did not manipulate the car, it was just bad luck,” said Hayle. “On lap two Albon ended up in the gravel, tossing stones into the air. Alexander [Sims] was following Albon and was hit by a shower of stones.

“Some have taken off his wind shield; others have created a crack in his airbox. It’s a shame that this led to the exclusion and to losing fifth position.”
