Guan Yu Zhou completes Motopark 2016 line-up

1 Mins read

Highly rated Chinese driver Guan Yu Zhou has become Motopark’s fourth and final driver for the 2016 FIA European Formula 3 Championship season.

The Ferrari Driver Academy-backed sixteen-year-old steps up from finishing runner-up in the Italian Formula 4 Championship with Prema Powerteam in 2015, and joins Sergio Sette Camara, Joel Eriksson and Niko Kari in the four-car line-up.

“My objective this season is to finish inside the top three of the rookie championship,” said the Chinese racer. “At the same me, I want to learn and improve as much as I can.“

Team Principal Timo Rumpfkeil believes Zhou will be a contender in the rookie championship in 2016, and was impressed with his ability when he tested with his Formula 3 team.

“We noticed his raw talent when he was guesting in a few German F4 meetings,“ said Rumpfkeil. “When he tested in our F3 car, we were mighty impressed with both his speed and his consistency. We’re convinced he will stand good chances in this year’s rookies’ championship.

“I’m very happy with our line-up. Thanks do our successful maiden Euro F3 season last year, we got quite a lot of requests. Continuing with Camara was a logical choice, which we both wanted from a very early stage onwards.

“It would have been nice to have another driver with Formula Three experience. But after Eriksson, Kari and Zhou were all so convincing during their tests, we decided to support them on their first steps on the F3 ladder.

“After all, Team Motopark is well renown for finding and teaching young talents, preparing them for their next steps. I’m sure we’ve got a very competitive package both on the drivers’ and the technical front.“
