Aron Smith will return for another Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season in 2016, joining the Team BKR outfit alongside rookie, Mark Howard.
Irishman Smith, a three-time race winner in the BTCC, will race familiar machinery as Team BKR run a pair of Volkswagen CCs for the coming campaign to complete a record 32-car grid for 2016.
UK Clio Cup graduate Howard is no stranger to the BTCC paddock having raced in the support series for the last two seasons, joining the same team behind the hugely successful Bubble & Kick Racing. The outfit boasts nearly a decade of club level motorsport behind them, and will now have a proven race-winning car in the ex-Team BMR CC.
Smith’s future had been in doubt during the winter season, but those doubts have been removed by a two-year extension with Team BMR – partners of the BKR operation.
“I truly feel that I and everyone at BKR can have a remarkable season in the BTCC,” said Smith.
While the squad has carried out some testing in recent weeks, this afternoon will represent its first official outing as both Smith and Howard hope to clock up the miles at Donington Park.
