Callum Ilott has kept his opening race victory at the Red Bull Ring following a post-race meeting with the stewards after being investigated for an overtake on the opening lap on Saturday.
The Van Amersfoort Racing driver was under investigation for possibly passing Prema Powerteam’s Maximilian Günther after the safety car had been deployed for a first lap turn two crash between ThreeBond with T-Sport’s Arjun Maini and Carlin’s Weiron Tan.
But after speaking to both drivers and analysing data post race, the stewards deemed that Ilott’s move was legitimate, meaning the former Red Bull-backed driver was able to keep his victory.
It is Ilott’s second victory of the season having taken his first win around the Paul Ricard circuit in France at the beginning of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship season.
Günther on the other had was forced to settle for third in race one, with the German losing out to both team-mate Lance Stroll and Mücke Motorsport’s Mikkel Jensen at the restart following the safety car, although he was able to get back at Jensen to claim the podium.
