Hitech GP team principal Oliver Oakes was delighted to see his team secure two of the three victories on offer during the FIA European Formula 3 Championship event around the streets of Pau last weekend.
Oakes saw Racing Steps Foundation-backed Ben Barnicoat secure victory in race one on Saturday, while team-mate George Russell took the win in race two, with the latter also claiming a podium finish in the final race of the weekend, the Pau Grand Prix.
The victories coupled with Barnicoat’s triumph in Hungary means the team have secured a trio of wins in just nine races this year, their debut season in the championship, and Oakes admitted his pride of what the team achieved in France.
“What a weekend!” expressed Oakes. “We knew from the previous two events our potential was not fully exploited.
“To come to the streets of Pau as a new team is never easy, but to go away with victories in two of the three races – a win in the dry, a win in the rain – is something I am very proud of.
“This a real team effort. The drivers performed superbly and the team worked incredibly hard to be prepared for this event, the guys took everything that was thrown at them in their stride.
“We now have a busy few days preparing for Red Bull Ring next weekend where, of course, expectations will be high but we are fully focused on ourselves and doing the best job we can.”
