Formula Renault 2.0 and EuroFormula Open frontrunner Ferdinand Habsburg is looking to move into the FIA European Formula 3 Championship in 2017.
The Austrian racer, who has hit a good vein of form in the trio of championships he races in during 2016 – Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and NEC as well as EuroFormula Open – and has taken multiple podium finishes in all championships as well as his maiden win in EuroFormula Open.
His Formula Renault 2.0 team Fortec Motorsports are looking into making their return to the FIA European Formula 3 Championship after sitting out the first part of this season, and Habsburg is one of the two drivers, along with Vasily Romanov, to be testing with the team in the official European Formula 3 test at Hockenheim this week.
“At the moment there’s nothing signed, sealed and delivered, but the idea is to do FIA F3 next year,” said Habsburg’s manager Jamie Campbell-Walter to Autosport. “He’s on a good run at the moment and has scored a lot of podiums.
“The plan is to do the Macau Grand Prix so he learns it for next year, but Fortec said the best way to qualify for that is to do an FIA F3 race, so it transpires we could do the final round at Hockenheim.”
