Tom Ingram left it even later to top the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Oulton Park to make it two from two for the Speedworks Motorsport man.
As was the case in the opening 40-minute session of the day, the times were headed by the Team BKR Volkswagen CC of Aron Smith for its majority, before another late flurry of laps changed the picture at the front.
Both Ingram and the Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda Civic Type-R of Gordon Shedden made their presence felt as the session came to a close, Ingram’s 1m25.858s lap enough to top the times by 0.065s from Shedden.
The pair were the only drivers to break the 1m26s barrier, Smith next up ahead of Josh Cook‘s Triple Eight Racing MG and the West Surrey Racing pairing of Jack Goff and Sam Tordoff.
The session was a highly positive one for Team BMR and their Subaru Levorg GT machines meanwhile. Despite only setting six laps apiece in the session, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington‘s efforts were good enough for seventh and eighth respectively, the former only six tenths off the pace of Ingram’s Toyota.
Ashley Sutton ensured both Triple Eight MGs made it into the top 10, while another Avensis rounded out the top 10 in the hands of Handy Motorsport‘s Rob Austin.
The fully-ballasted Honda of Matt Neal was just outside that top 10 in 11th, while fellow championship contenders Rob Collard, Mat Jackson and Adam Morgan ended 15th, 20th and 23rd respectively.
