After coming close several times in 2016, Joel Eriksson finally became a FIA European Formula 3 Championship race winner, triumphing in race three at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday.
The Swedish driver also secured the first victory of the year for his Motopark team, and was delighted to finally breakthrough and taste the champagne from the top step of the podium, with Eriksson also having finished second in Friday’s second race.
Eriksson is now hoping that this victory will take him to the next level, and is looking to build on this result and be in contention for race victory for the rest of the season.
“It’s such an incredible feeling to have taken my first Formula 3 win,” said Eriksson, who now leads the rookie standings ahead of Ben Barnicoat. “We’ve been working really hard for this, and I have to thank the team for all the effort they’ve put in.
“We have come close on a number of occasions, but to finally stand on top of the podium is an amazing thing. Now, we’ve proved that we’ve got what it takes to win at this level, and I’m confident that we can build on this over the rest of the season.”
