Motorbase Provisionally Clinch Maiden Independent BTCC Title

1 Mins read

Motorbase Performance provisionally claimed their maiden Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title at Rockingham, now holding an unassailable lead in the Independent Teams’ Championship.

Recently surpassing 300 BTCC races since their 2006 debut, Motorbase picked up two Indie victories thanks to both Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan at Rockingham Motor Speedway last weekend to move 136 points clear of Speedworks Motorsport with just 120 points still to play for.

The Kent squad have claimed Independent honours in 12 races this season, Jordan meanwhile holding a 17-point lead over Motorbase team-mate Jackson in the Independent Drivers’ Championship with six races remaining.

A four-time overall race winner in 2016, Jackson added a seventh podium finish to his name in the most recent meeting in Northamptonshire, now lying 28 points behind series leader, Sam Tordoff.

Jackson said: “To come away with a podium and two top five results is great for our Championship position heading into the second to last round at Silverstone.”

After a podium of his own in race two, Jordan commented: “On the whole, I think we managed to rescue a terrible Saturday coming away with two good results. It was really nice to get back on the podium – it’s been too long and things finally opened up nicely for us in race 1 and 2 and we managed to put our pace to good use.”

Motorbase Team Manager Oly Collins added: “What a great weekend! Mat, Andrew and the whole team were superb throughout.

“It’s been a very rewarding weekend strengthening Motorbase as a serious contender against the Manufacturer teams, and to have as good as secured our first ever BTCC title in the Independent Teams’ Championship with two weekends still to go is a fantastic testament to the talent and hard work of the team.”
