Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram tops FP2 at Knockhill

1 Mins read

Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram has topped the timesheets in Free Practice 2 in his Toyota Avensis at Knockhill.

Ingram, who set his best time 28 minutes into the session was the only driver in the session to go into the 51s with a 51.955, which was two-tenths quicker than WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan in second with a 52.183.

Team JCT600 with GardX’s Sam Tordoff led FP2 early on with a 53.427, with his team-mate and current British Touring Car Championship Leader Robert Collard was briefly in second, behind his Yorkshire team-mate.

Eurotech Racing’s Jeff Smith was fourth place, but ended up with his Honda Civic in the barrier coming into the Duffus Dip, but Smith was able to continue on in the session.

As the times tumbled, the first and only red flag of FP2 came from Proton’s Dan Welch, who stopped at the Taylors hairpin at nearly halfway through the session, causing a brief stoppage to the session.

It was Ingram who topped FP2, ahead of Morgan and the IHG Rewards Club BMW of Jack Goff in third as the top three were covered by just over three-tenths of a seconds between each other.

Team BMR’s Jason Plato in his five-hundredth BTCC outing at Knockhill despite topping FP1 was sixth, while Colin Turkington was twelfth. Their team-mate, Warren Scott stopped on Sector 2 in his Subaru Levorg in the final minutes of the session, causing a yellow flag in that sector. Scott finished FP2 in twenty-fifth place.

While the top two in the Drivers’ Standings, Tordoff and Collard were seventh and tenth respectively as the top ten FP2 drivers were covered by nearly four-tenths of a second on the tight Knockhill Circuit.

Qualifying for the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship from Knockhill will start later on today at 15:50pm.
