Jean-Eric Vergne showed stunning pace once again as he went fastest by nearly three tenths, as the second test got underway at Donington Park.
After setting the Formula E track record on day two of the first test, the Frenchman showed that the pace in his Techeetah wasn’t a one off as he went within six thousands of matching it again.
Behind him Sam Bird achieved DS Virgin Racing’s best position in testing so far by setting the second fastest time, just ahead of Nico Prost in the Renault e.dams and Jerome d’Ambrosio in the Dragon Racing.
Sebastien Buemi went fifth after missing the morning session as he had only just returned from the WEC round in Mexico.
And after topping the final day of the first test, Daniel Abt went over a second faster than teammate Lucas di Grassi to get sixth, with di Grassi down in eleventh.
Adam Carroll also put in an encouraging performance for Jaguar to get the seventh fastest time.
Formula E’s newest team hadn’t made much of an impression during the first test as they evaluated drivers ahead of their line-up announcement later this week.
However while Carroll put in a better performance, his presumptive teammate Mitch Evans could only set the fourteenth fastest time.
Behind Carroll were DS Virgin’s new driver Jose Maria Lopez, Mahindra Racing’s Nick Heidfeld and Ma Qing Hua, who has yet to get within touching distance of his Techeetah teammate in terms of lap times.
Elsewhere it was a nightmare day for Andretti, Antonio Felix da Costa had an off in the morning session, leading to a red flag, and was then only able to set a fastest lap that was almost two seconds off the best time.
His teammate Robin Frijns fared no better, ending up rooted to the bottom of the pecking order.
