Alexander Sims will return once more to the FIA European Formula 3 Championship this weekend at the Hockenheimring as he races the fourth Hitech GP entry.
The twenty-seven-year-old will race alongside George Russell, Ben Barnicoat and Nikita Mazepin in Germany for the team he gave a competitive debut to back in 2015, with Sims’ appearance securing his qualification for the Macau Grand Prix in November.
Although Sims is set to race for Double R Racing in Macau, the Silverstone-based Hitech team are delighted to welcome the BMW factory driver into their line-up this weekend, and director Oliver Oakes revealed that the team had been looking to run a fourth car this season but until now this had not been possible to achieve.
“We had been looking to field our fourth car from mid-season onwards, but the driver deals didn’t quite come off around existing racing commitments, so we decided to focus on the three cars we had,” said Oakes to Autosport.
“Although he is driving for Double R in Macau, we’re happy to have Alex back with us for Hockenheim – it’s almost a reunion as such!”
Whereas Sims will switch to Double R for Macau, Hitech GP will be competing in the event with three cars for Russell, Mazepin and DTM racer Daniel Juncadella.
