DS Virgin Racing have described themselves as feeling bullish going into the Buenos Aires ePrix this weekend, with Team Principal Alex Tai saying they are ‘fully-charged’.

After an inauspicious start to the season DS Virgin bounced back in Marrakesh with a second place for Sam Bird and Jose Maria Lopez scoring his first ever point in the series.

And Tai said that it was the potential of his drivers that was one of the main reasons for feeling confident, with Bird having won last year’s race and Lopez driving in his home ePrix.

Tai said, “DS Virgin Racing really are fully charged ahead of Buenos Aires. In Marrakech Sam podiumed, in a car our fantastic mechanics had rebuilt literally minutes before the race commenced.

“Pound for pound, Sam is one of the best and most experienced drivers in Formula E, whilst our newcomer Jose Maria Lopez offers enormous potential, and I look forward to seeing him demonstrate his capabilities in front of his home crowd.”

Ahead of racing in his home race, Lopez will be taking part in a street parade in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, ahead of the race.

He said that he was looking forward to racing in front of an Argentinian crowd, commenting “I’m getting a lot of media asking me how I’ll perform in Buenos Aires, it being my home country.

“Well, I have the team, and I have the car, so I think I have as good a chance as anyone out there on race day. I’m just excited to go out and race in front of my fans!”

Last year’s race winner Bird said that he was also hopeful of pulling off a repeat of his result from last time.

“It’s a great race for drivers and better still, a great day out for spectators,” Bird said.

“After my win there last season, I’m hugely excited to get back to Buenos Aires to try and repeat the feat.”
