Two-time Brazilian Formula 3 Champion Pedro Piquet will continue with Van Amersfoort Racing for a second season of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship in 2017.

The son of former Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet and brother of inaugural FIA Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr collected five top ten finishes in his rookie season in 2016, with a best finish of sixth at Spa-Francorchamps, and is looking to build on that this season as he joins David Beckmann in the team.

“From the first moment, the team gave me a true family feeling,” said Piquet. “I adapted to my new life in Europe very quickly. I can focus on racing for 100 percent.

“After my first full season I now have experience and know the tracks. Together with Van Amersfoort Racing it is my ambition to be a regular front-runner in FIA F3 European Formula 3. I am ready!”

Founder and team principal Fritz van Amersfoort believes Piquet has the ability to have stand out results in his sophomore season, and insists the team will do everything in their power to ensure this happens for the eighteen-year-old.

“It is a pleasure to continue working with Pedro, he has developed his speed and skills continuously during the season,” said van Amersfoort. “With a full season experience in his bag I am confident that Pedro will be able to stand out this forthcoming season. Our team will do everything to guide him towards strong results.”
