The Volkswagon Racing Cup has revealed a prize for its championship competitors at the end of the 2017. The top three in the standings will, come season end, be given the opportunity to test a British Touring Car Championship machine.
News was released during the Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR) media day on 14 February and will be hosted by the Maximum Motorsport race team. Each racer will get to drive the NGTC Ford Focus ST along with full support from the team during a BTCC test day.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer this unique experience for the first time for Volkwagen Cup competitors. The BTCC is the known pinnacle of British Motorsport, so this test is a fantastic opportunity for the experienced talents to sample the Ford in its full glory,” commented Stewart Lines, Volkswagen Racing series director.
“We’ve seen how many Volkswagen Racing Cup drivers take the natural progression through into the BTCC, and we expect that trend to continue for years to come in the championship. We hope this test will give the individuals the chance to develop as drivers as they look onward to progress through the ranks of Motorsport.”
Going into the season, defending champion Phil House has already been announced and will be favourite to take the leap. He will face stiff competition though, from Maximum Motorsports own contingent, Team Hard and Swanflight in the brand-new Audi TT 2.0TFSI.
