Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Toto Wolff is happy with the decision to appoint former Grand Prix winner Gerhard Berger as the president of ITR.

With former ‘Father of DTM’ Hans Werner Aufrecht stepping down after more than 30 years in the role, Berger will help decide the direction of the highly popular touring car series in the future.

“I’m convinced that with the appointment of Gerhard Berger, the DTM has found the ideal successor to Hans Werner Aufrecht.” said Wolff.

“There are not many who have such a vast motorsport experience in several functions. And he has proven in the past with Formula 3 that he is capable to develop and strengthen a racing series.

“What Hans Werner Aufrecht has done for the DTM in the last three decades is beyond words. Without him, the DTM would certainly not be what it is today. We will always be grateful to him for that.”
