Ferdinand Habsburg put the disappointments of his Silverstone weekend well and truly behind him with a strong set of results at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which included a first podium finish.
The Carlin Motorsport driver had three top five finishes, with the Austrian making some tremendous and daring overtakes, especially in race two when he was forced off track on the opening lap and dropped to sixteenth.
He picked off the opposition one by one to finish fifth, a result he then matched in race three, but he completed the podium in race one in a Carlin 1-2-3. He put down the improvements in qualifying better than he had in qualifying, but even then he managed to show good race craft in all three races.
“I’ve proven time and time again that I have the ability to carve my way through a pack of racecars,” said Habsburg. “So, this weekend’s challenge was to make life easier for myself by qualifying well… for every race!
“Starting the weekend with a fifth place in qualifying was success for the first goal. I just needed to convert it into a result.
“I’m pleased to have improved in qualifying and nailed consistency but I need to try and break that top three in qualifying. Starting on the front row would make my races a lot easier!
“I have to take my hat off to Carlin Racing this weekend. They not only did a fantastic job with my car but they locked-out the podium in race one, which is utterly incredible in such a competitive championship.”
