Jake Hughes returned to the podium for the first time since the opening round of the season at Silverstone at the Hungaroring on Saturday, but admitted he had expected a return to the podium to come sooner than it did.
It has been a relatively low-key start to the 2017 FIA European Formula 3 Championship season for the Hitech Grand Prix driver, with three retirements and three further finishes outside the top ten, but at the Hungaroring Hughes secured three top seven results including a runners-up spot in race one.
That result was followed up by a fourth place finish in Sunday morning’s second race, while he secured seventh place in the final race of the weekend, moving himself up to seventh place in the championship standings as a result.
“I am really happy to be back on the podium,” said Hughes, who secured all bar one of Hitech’s 37-points in Hungary. “However, we admit that we hadn’t expected that it would take that long for the second podium finish to arrive.
“I was able to go into the race from the front row and I had a good start and managed to bring second place home”
