Colin Turkington grabbed bragging rights for Team BMW by topping a closely-fought second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Knockhill.
The Northern Irishman repeated Tom Ingram‘s feat of leaving his best effort until the final minute of the session, snatching the top spot away from fellow championship contender, Ashley Sutton.
Sutton held the advantage having grabbed it from the clutches of Team BMR team-mate James Cole in the dying stages of the 40-minute session, but had to settle for second place by a mere 0.046s while the top 18 cars were covered by less than half a second.
Cole was just 0.139s adrift of Turkington’s time in third spot, Matt Neal best of the FWD cars in fourth place for Halfords Yuasa Racing. The Eurotech Honda Civic Type-R of Jack Goff was next up in fifth, Andrew Jordan next up in the Pirtek-liveried West Surrey Racing BMW 125i.
Jason Plato ensured three Subaru Levorg GTs sat inside the top 10, seventh while Aiden Moffat (Mercedes), Rob Collard (BMW) and rookie Ant Whorton-Eales (Audi) rounded out the top 10.
Gordon Shedden could only manage 11th spot, carrying maximum success ballast into the day’s qualifying session later this afternoon at 16:10.
