Nikita Mazepin participated in his first Formula 1 test since the post-British Grand Prix test at Silverstone in 2016, and felt it was another enjoyable experience for the Russian teenager.

The current FIA European Formula 3 Championship racer, who took his best result of his careers so far with a second place finish at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend, completed 52 laps of the Hungaroring on Tuesday as he shared the driving duties for the Sahara Force India F1 Team with Lucas Auer.

Mazepin will return to the car on Wednesday afternoon hoping to build on his performance on Tuesday, with the eighteen-year-old finishing sixth fastest overall with a best time of 1:19.910s.

“It’s been a long year since I tested in Silverstone and I have been looking forward to getting back in the car all this time,” said Mazepin. “It was another great experience and I enjoyed working with the team.

“I was interested to experience these new cars and so far I am satisfied. The morning went quite well and I am happy with how things worked out for me.

“I am looking forward to tomorrow afternoon – tonight I will be analysing what I did, see what the team’s plan is and see where I can improve tomorrow.”
