Dan Ticktum continued his FIA European Formula 3 Championship qualifying form from Friday to take two front row starts for Sunday’s pair of races at the Hungaroring. He had been quick throughout the session, putting in a late lap to pip Enaam Ahmed, who will still start from pole in race three.
The pairs pace culminated towards the end of the session, with both outpacing Guan Yu Zhou who remained a threat throughout the fight. Ticktum had been demoted back to second, only for his final lap to ensure he started on pole for the second race.
As a result, the top three was similar as race one, with Ticktum leading a Hitech GP driver and Zhou, though this time, the Hitech GP driver was not Alex Palou who had to settle for fifth. Even in the second fastest times, Ahmed leads Ticktum and another Prema driver; Marcus Armstrong.
Armstrong will hope for a better result on Sunday after his race one disaster, qualifying alongside Zhou in fourth place. Qualifying alongside Palou meanwhile was Jehan Daravula as the Carlin‘s continue to struggle for one-lap pace.
Completing the top ten in qualifying was completed by Robert Shwartzman, Hitech’s Ben Hingeley, Carlin’s Ferdinand Habsburg and Fabio Scherer all of which will want a strong performance after failing to achieve their potential at Pau.
Q3 will see Ahmed and Ticktum lead Armstrong, Daruvala, Zhou and Shwartzman.
