FIA World Rallycross race winning driver Andreas Bakkerud was presented with the opportunity to test the Audi RS 5 DTM car at the recent DTM Young Driver tests in Jerez, Spain, completing a total of 59 laps.

Bakkerud has been left looking for a drive for 2019 after Audi puled their backing from rallycross and the EKS RX team announced they would not be competing in World RX next season.

Prior to the test the Norwegian drove a Formula 4 car and a Formula Renault 3.5 car at the Red Bull Ring, along with his introduction to DTM in the Team Rosberg simulator.

“For me as a rallycross driver, a completely new chapter.” said Bakkerud. “Last week I was able to prepare a little for the test in the simulator at Team Rosberg.”

Having been used to driving the 600bhp Audi S1 rallycross car, Bakkerud was impressed with the performance of the RS 5 DTM.

“Obviously, then driving the RS 5 DTM here on the race track was even quite a bit more impressive.

“It was hard to believe how late you can brake with the DTM cars. Jamie (Green) and René (Rast) gave me some valuable pointers in this respect.

“Thank you to (Head of Audi Motorsport) Dieter Gass, Audi Sport and the entire test team for this really cool experience.”
