Hitech GP have announced their second of three drivers ahead of their sophomore BRDC British Formula 3 Championship season, in the form of 2019 FIA Formula 4 runner-up Sebastian Alvarez.
Alvarez entered British F4 in 2018, claiming two podiums, 12 top-ten finishes and a pole position, returning in 2019 to take five wins, 19 podiums and three poles.
The Mexican was earmarked for a British F3 seat in 2020 with Woking-based Double R Racing, with whom he excelled in British F4.
COVID-19 saw him call off his racing plans last year though, and Alvarez eventually joined Hitech for 2021 having tested their Tatuus BF3-020 over winter.
Alvarez is backed by Escuderia Telmex, who have fuelled the careers of new Red Bull Racing signing Sergio Perez, as well as Colombia’s Tatiana Calderon, who will compete in Super Formula again this season.
Alvarez said of the move, “I’m excited to make the step up into British Formula 3 with Hitech.
“I cannot wait to get going after a year out. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone in the team and working together to achieve great results. Hitech is a great team with lots of experience.
“I want to thank my sponsors Einteligent, Miura Capital, Interproteccion, NSAA and Escuderia Telmex and everyone else that made this possible.“
The team have pedigree in FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3, and entered British F3 last season with Reece Ushijima and eventual championship runner-up Kush Maini.
Hitech announced former Lanan Racing man Bart Horsten in February, with their third driver for this year yet to be announced.
The season is set to begin alongside the Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Brands Hatch on 22/23 May.
