The Jaguar Racing team had a poor performance in the DHL Valencia E-Prix, with both Sam Bird and Mitch Evans not scoring points for the team over both races that weekend. They want to redeem themselves in Monaco.
Sam Bird was disqualified from Round five of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as he did not finish the race with energy left in his car. Mitch Evans had a collision with Sergio Sette Camara (Dragon-Penske Autosport) in Round five, for which he sustained a three-place grid drop for Round six’s starting grid.
James Barclay, Jaguar team principal, said the team had worked hard since Valencia: “We were unfortunate not to score points in Valencia but are now completely focussed on getting the most out of the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 around Monaco and returning to points scoring positions”.
Evans finished sixth in the last iteration of the Monaco E-Prix in the 2018/2019 Formula E Season. His teammate Bird finished sixteenth in the same race, despite not reaching the finish line due to a puncture. As he had completed over 90% of the race distance, he was still classified.
“The Monaco track is something as a racing driver you never tire of” said Bird ahead of Formula E’s first weekend on the full Circuit de Monaco. His track record in Monaco is good so far: out of the ten times he participated in a race in Monaco, he won twice.
His teammate Evans has a shorter run in Monaco in the Formula One feeder series GP2: he never finished lower than sixth in the times in the years he competed, and never lower than tenth. He had a few retirements and one Did Not Start event in 2015.
These two drivers are currently third and fourth in the Formula E Driver’s Championship, behind Nyck De Vries (Mercedes-EQ Formula E team) and Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ). Jaguar stand second behind German team Mercedes-EQ.
The Monaco E-Prix will take place on 8 May 2021 at 16:00 CET (15:00 BST) for Round seven of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
