Sam Bird and Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) were first and second after the first practice session of the day on the full Circuit de Monaco track in the 2021 Monaco E-Prix. The two drivers ran a smooth session, despite a red flag interrupting the run of many drivers.
Sergio Sette Camara (Dragon/Penske Autosport) was responsible for the red flag, as his car abruptly stopped at the exit of the Rascasse. His car began flashing red, indicating an electrical issue on the car, and marshals had to push his car into the pits, equipped with rubber gloves. While he was stopped, Norman Nato (ROKiT Venturi Racing) hit the back of him: the Frenchman’s front wing had to be changed. Oliver Rowland (Nissan e.dams) managed to avoid him by a very small margin. Dragon brought their new powertrain here this weekend.
Jaguar Racing stands second in the ABB FIA Formula E World Team Championship, twenty-three points behind leaders Mercedes-EQ Formula E team. Mercedes-EQ had a quiet session, with Nyck de Vries sixth and Stoffel Vandoorne eleventh. They will start in Group One qualifying later today.
The modifications of the Formula E track are a tighter corner at Sainte Devote (Turn One) and a very compact chicane at the exit of the Monaco tunnel. From the running in this session, it looks like only one car can pass in the corner there, which could lead to some interesting highlights in the race later today.
Free Practice Two starts at 10:15 CET (9:15 BST), with qualifying at 12:00 CET (11:00 BST) and the race at 16:04 CET (15:04 BST).
