Formula 2 is back for its penultimate race in Monza, Italy, for the thirteenth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The fight for the top step is as passionate as ever after the rollercoaster round in Zandvoort, which puts Championship Leader Theo Pourchaire 12 points ahead of contender Fredrik Vesti.
The Story So Far
With just two races left, PREMA Racing’s Vesti is closing in on second following a sad DNF in Zandvoort together with his teammate Oliver Bearman during a weekend to forget. ART’s Pourchaire leads the title into the Temple of Speed. The Dane had a spin that dropped him off the starting grid, then lost his rear tyres on his outlap, which forced him to quit the race.
Ayumu Iwasa of DAMS, who has 134 points, is still in third place overall, followed by Jack Doohan, who is only 4 points behind. The Australian driver had a lucky season full of incredible drives to pick up back-to-back victories.
With 290 points, ART Grand Prix is in first place in the constructor’s championship, competing against PREMA Racing’s 258 points. Rodin Carlin takes third place after overtaking DAMS with 200 points on the board.
What Happened Last Year?
The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is a notable track; it is one of the most famous in racing history, and it always produces exciting racing action. In addition to its well-known parabolic turn, it is well-known for its fast speed.
Juri Vips of Hitech won the sprint race and practice in 2022, and Jack Doohan of Virtuosi won the pole position. Jehan Daruvala of PREMA Racing won both the home race for the team and the feature event.
What to Expect?
PREMA Racing may be able to rediscover their feet at Monza and compete for the championship’s top spot before the break. Fittipaldi, Martins, and Bearman could compete against one another for the most points. Although the circuit is fast-paced and demanding, magic occurs there.
Drivers use their full power for 79% of every lap at Monza, which is more than any other track on the F2 schedule. Because there are so few turns to worry about and much of the lap is spent in lengthy blasts, peak speed is more important than downforce. For the weekend, forecasters anticipate brief rain showers at the summer track, which is typically dry.
