Engine Damage Ends AmD Milltek’s Silverstone Weekend

1 Mins read

The VW Golf of AmD Milltek Racing will be absent from the British Touring Car grid for the races at Silverstone tomorrow (22 August) after the car's engine suffered severe damage in qualifying.

Full of confidence driver Shuan Hollamby had just set his fastest lap of the session, a full half second faster than the time he had set during the weekend's first practice session.

However, in the engine an alternator belt broke, the remnants becoming entangled in the timing belt – the resulting damage to serious for the team to repair at the track – Hollamby noting that the team didn't have the quantity of spare parts required for such a major repair. Thus their Silverstone meeting was brought to a premature and very disappointing end.

The team had been hopeful of a strong showing as they continue to improve in their maiden BTCC season, but now they are already looking to bounce back at Knockhill.

“We'll regroup and be back for Knockhill in two weeks time, where the circuit will be more suited to the Golf,” assured Hollamby. “We’ll be aiming to continue our push towards a top ten finish”.
