British Touring Car Championship star James Nash lost out in his bid to win at the Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai. The youngster was sharing a Honda with fellow BTCC star James Kaye, Mark Lemmer, Mike Brown and Jason O'Keefe for the WRC Developments team.
After a superb qualifying session, which saw Nash take class pole position for the team by 1.4 seconds, confidence was high ahead of the race. However a second hour accident for Kaye saw the team lose valuable time while the car was being repaired, before an engine blowout later in the race ended the team's chances of success.
Despite Nash and his co-drivers best attempts to recover the lost ground, the team could only end up 9th in class and 58th overall. However Nash was able to salvage some pride by setting the fastest lap of the race.
Commenting on the tough race, Nash said: “While we didn't get the result I think we deserved after dominating qualifying it has been a fantastic experience for me personally. It was my first 24 hour race of any kind and while we'd of course liked to have won or at least scored a podium, I was really pleased for the whole team in that we finished the race given the troubles we had to overcome”.
