BTCC 2011 Team-By-Team Preview: Rob Austin Racing

No.12 Dave Pinkney – No.13 TBA
Audi A4
NGTC chassis and engine

The target Rob Austin set himself and his team is noble enough, bringing the four rings of Audi back to BTCC for the first time since the four-wheel-drive machines of the Super Touring era. However, the execution has been nothing but problems.

After missing the media day entirely Austin hopes to bring one car to Brands Hatch for veteran Pinkney before debuting a second car for the second round at Donington.

Speaking to www.thecheckeredflag.co.uk when the single car effort for Brands was confirmed he admitted that even getting the first round at all would still require hard work from the team completing the build of the car.

Pinkney returns to the series after initially choosing to take a year away from the championship, tempted back by the thought of piloting an Audi

Rob Austin On…….The struggles of preparation
“We're still going to struggle to get the first car there – that's still a big job at the end of the Rob Austin Racing team have done everything physically possible, we've done everything right. I'm really proud, my boys have been pushing the project along.”

Dave Pinkney On…..Signing up with Rob Austin Racing
“I thought I'd call it a day and not bother then I got a phone call to say that these two new Audis are being built they haven't been in the championship for about 14 years, the last time with Frank Beila and I thought 'wow'. I'm looking forward to driving the thing.”

Verdict: Pushing to be ready. A great unknown on track, but unlikely to be instant scorers.
