Andrew Jordan believe he and the rest of the Pirtek Racing squad are the “in the best place yet” as they prepare for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) opener on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit this weekend.
21-year-old Jordan showed pace at last week's series media day, topping the afternoon of testing and is hoping that, after a year of running the NGTC turbocharged engine in 2010 the team can put their knowledge to good use in 2011.
“There are a lot more people coming in with turbo engines this year and I think our experience will stand us in good stead,” he said. Jordan is one of several drivers heading into the season aiming for the Independents' title, and admit that even at the start of the 30-race, 10-weekend calendar he will be thinking of the overall standings.
He says; “we're certainly looking at the bigger picture right from the start of the season. Our aim this year is to win the Independents' title and we've got to approach it in a good controlled way and get strong points' finishes wherever we can.”
“It's a very, very busy race and you've got to keep that in mind when you really want three finishes from the first weekend. If we're in a position to win, of course I'll go for it!”
Jordan will be joined by Jeff Smith under the Pirtek Racing banner, starting his first full season in the BTCC.
