William Buller pulled double duty last season, competing in both the F3 Euroseries and GP3, with a fair mix of results, including a last to first win for Carlin Racing at Silverstone in GP3, as well as a fifth place finish in the 2012 Euroseries overall standings.
He has decided to solely lay his competitive focus in the FIA F3 European Championship this year, having joined the ThreeBond with T-Sport squad, who with the 20-year-old from County Down, look to go for the title. Last season saw the Northern Ireland driver establish his credentials in the Euroseries, with him making an attempt to challenge for the series title from the first race.
Buller has completed laps at Angelsey late last year, before the 2-day test in Spain on the 8th and 9th of March, getting to grips with the Nissan-powered Dallara F312 he will be using at all 10 rounds of the series, which will soon start at Monza. “I’m delighted to have been signed up by ThreeBond to compete in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship this season and am looking forward to the challenges of the season ahead,” said Buller, who was lapping under the current Angelsey lap record, having gotten used to the new car relatively quickly.
“For me, this is a really big season as I have shown I am capable of fighting for victories in the past, and I feel I was able to learn a lot as a driver from my programme last year. It certainly won’t be easy this season as there are some top teams and drivers on the grid, but we have a package that is more than capable of challenging for honours at the head of the pack and I’m confident that we will be amongst the contenders at the end of the year.”
So as the FIA F3 European Championship looks set to light the tracks ablaze, including Silverstone, Monza and Brands Hatch, the fight will be hard from the first set of lights going out, as all look to stake their claim on the chance to drive a Ferrari Formula One car, as a prize for winning the title. We’ll see just what happens when they all speed to the first corner…
