Fresh from completing a deal to race for Pirtek Racing in the 2014 British Touring Car Championship, Martin Depper is relishing the challenge as he makes his return to the series he last debuted in back in 2010.
Depper will partner this year’s BTCC champion Andrew Jordan at the Independent title-winning squad next season, replacing Jeff Smith after purchasing the NGTC Honda Civic run by Eurotech.
The 45-year-old competed in the 2013 APR Volkswagen Racing Cup and claimed two wins driving a KPM-run Scirocco, and is already gearing up for his return to the series which he last raced in during 2010, driving a Forster Motorsport BMW 320i.
“I wanted to put myself into a strong position so buying the Honda and getting Eurotech to run it takes away most variables and leaves it down to me”, said Depper, who feels in a solid position to learn proceedings quickly, particularly with the current champion alongside him.
“I look forward to learning from Andrew about how to get the most from an NGTC car”.
Eurotech boss Mike Jordan welcomed Depper to the squad, saying: “Martin has a good pedigree and I’m sure we can give him the support and experience he needs to really get to grips with the BTCC. We’ve already started a testing programme so that he is well prepared for the start of the new season.”
Depper has already tested the Honda Civic for the first time last week at Donington, and will make his official BTCC return when the new season gets underway at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March 2014.
