Kieran Gallagher will switch from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship to the B-TEC Development Series this season.
Gallagher is the first driver to confirm their entry into the new touring car series, having signed a one year deal with Team BKR.
Earlier this week, the Essex-based outfit announced their intentions to run a six-car team in the series following a tie-up with front-running outfit Team BMR.
The team have acquired BMR’s fleet of four Volkswagen CC’s, plus a pair of Vauxhall Insignias, the model Gallagher made his BTCC debut in back in 2013.
The 25 year old completed in a Team HARD Toyota Avensis last season, picking up just a single points finish at Thruxton during a difficult campaign.
“I knew as soon as I read about this series that it would be a wise move for me, I am keen to continue my progress in NGTC machinery and what better way for me to move forward than with the help of Team BKR,” said Gallagher.
“I just cannot wait to get out in the car now and begin testing, to be given the chance to pilot a proved BTCC race winning car is a real privilege and an opportunity I will make the most of.”
Team BKR manager Nico Ferrari added: “I’ve been keen from the start to have a recent BTCC driver on our team, to have one from just last season is superb!
“I’m looking forward to giving the guy the chance to show his ability and pace in a front running NGTC.”
