Junior single-seater giants Hitech GP have completed their three-car line-up for the 2021 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, announcing that Reece Ushijima will stay with the team for its second year in the series.

The Silverstone-based outfit also runs teams in FIA Formula 2, FIA Formula 3 and FIA Asian Formula 3.

They took Kush Maini to second place in the 2020 season, while Ushijima finished 11th in the sister car.

Second-place finishes in Round 5 at Donington Park in August, and Round 13 at the championship’s second visit to the Leicestershire circuit, were the Japanese-American driver’s best finishes of the season, while he secured many more point-scoring finishes throughout his first year in the series.

In staying on for 2021, he joins Bart Horsten, who moves from the outgoing Lanan Racing (now Elite Motorsport), and 2019 FIA F4 British Championship runner-up Sebastian Alvarez.

Ushijima took two Rookie Class wins in the Asian F3 series over winter with Hitech, on the way to a 12th-place finish overall.

He competed in Formula Ford 1600 and the MRF Challenge in 2019, before making the step up to Britain’s premier single-seater series.

He said, “I’m thrilled to be back for another season of British F3 with Hitech GP.

“The team and I had a strong season last year where I personally learned a lot, and this year I’m ready to put all of that to practice. Super grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get the season started.”

The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship is expected to start alongside the Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Brands Hatch on 22/23 May.
