Former Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship racer Max Coates has expressed his excitement at getting given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of touring car machinery again with Wix Racing.
It was announced earlier this month that Ciceley Motorsport’s three drivers in the Renault UK Clio Cup – Coates, Dan Zelos and Ollie Pidgley – will receive tests in Adam Morgan’s Wix Mercedes at the end of the season.
For Coates, it’s a second opportunity to drive a BTCC racer having made his championship debut twelve months ago at Croft in a Support Our Paras Racing Infiniti Q50, in which the 22 year old posted a best finish of twentieth.
The 22 year old currently lies fourth in the Clio Cup standings, having taken a maiden series win and a second place finish last weekend at Croft.
“I’m over the moon about the opportunity. It will be great to get another outing in touring car machinery and see how we fare,” he commented.
“When I drove the Infiniti, it was capable of getting to the top twenty and that’s where we put it. Jumping into the Wix Mercedes, we know it can win races, so there’s no excuses for me.
“It will be a good chance for me to further build the relationship with the team that we want going forwards, though Adam [Morgan] has told me I’m not allowed to go faster than him.
“I’m really looking forward to it and we’ll see how we get on when it comes. Thank you so much to all the team at Ciceley for giving us the opportunity.”
